September 6, 2017 - Orlando, FL. Motion Picture Video’s new film, “Dueling Dragons” will tell the story of the Dueling Dragons Cops and Kids dragon boat team. The full length documentary will debut at the Rollins College Bush Theatre for the Global Peace Film Festival on September 24, 2017 at 3:30 pm. A social outreach campaign will be launched in October to promote the program and film to regional police departments, community centers and dragon boating clubs.
The first of its kind in the country, Dueling Dragons matches inner-city, at-risk teens along with officers from the Orlando Police Department. The program’s mission is to use this ancient team sport to build trust and long-term mentoring relationships in some of the city's toughest neighborhoods. The program addresses racial profiling, trust and respect. It has recently become a part of the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida.
The Global Peace Film Festival was established in Central Florida in 2003 to use creative media as a catalyst to inspire and educate people to initiate positive change in their local communities and worldwide. Dueling Dragons’ founder Andrea Eliscu says she hopes the film and its placement in the festival will serve as, “A tool to motivate other communities to develop a replicated program and to open the vision that kids from the hood are not bad - nor are police officers.”
Kiwanis Club of Orlando Foundation is the presenting sponsor. Their partnership, along with the fiscal sponsorship of the Global Peace Film Festival’s 501c3, will ensure that this film reaches a greater number of people. “Having the Kiwanis Club of Orlando Foundation as the title sponsor speaks directly to their mission of helping disadvantaged children,” says Eliscu.
